The 50-meter-tall statue of Laozi, an ancient Chinese philosopher from the Spring and Autumn Period (770 BC-476 BC) who is traditionally considered the founder of Taoism, is a striking landmark at the Taiqing scenic area on Laoshan Mountain in Qingdao, Shandong Province. Overlooking the Taiqing Palace, a Taoist temple with a history of more than 2,100 years, the statue is based on a painting of Laozi by renowned Tang Dynasty painter Wu Daozi, with vivid and detailed features.
